REVIEW OF MARFA FLIGHTS
"These stunning images of one of the most sparsely populated and least visited regions of North America are not your typical coffee table book pretty pictures. In Marfa Flights: Aerial Views of Big Bend Country, Paul Chaplo, a classically trained visual artist who also happens to be a professional photographer, found and composed out of this swirlingly violent and bone-dry landscape something wondrous and haunting. Photographed from a single engine airplane, at various times of day, the land and sky and jewel-like ribbons of water come alive with form, muscle, and color.”

— C.M. Mayo, author of Miraculous Air: Journey of a Thousand Miles through Baja California

Paul Chaplo appears as featured author at Texas Book Festival '14

We just returned from an amazing weekend at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, TX. Here I am meeting festival goers and signing books in the Texas A&M University Press tent. Words can barely express how deeply fulfilling the experience of having my photography book Marfa Flights published by Texas A&M University Press. This is a dream come true! Then, to have a big exhibition of my work at the same time at the Museum of the Big Bend is immensely satisfying. On top of that, being selected to be a featured TXBookFest author and speak with Griff and Stephanie is icing on the cake! So wonderful to share these moments with my wife Cyndi. We both have enjoyed meeting many quality people on this journey, and this weekend that includes Griff Smith, Stephanie Barko, C.M. Mayo and many fellow authors and TXBookFest organizers and volunteers. What an amazing time! Thanks to everyone who made it possible. Now we prepare for my presentation at the Center for Big Bend Studies Annual Conference and planning the next project. Center for Big Bend Studies Annual Conference Program More soon…
