Launching new book at Studio 101 Gallery in Fort Worth!

First book signing with early copies of the book! Book signing with Paul Chaplo at Studio 101 Gallery in Fort Worth. Chaplo will launch his new art book “Amarillo Flights” book at this premier event, bringing early copies of his new book for signing with a personalized inscription, just in time for those last minute Holiday gifts. The book captures the high plains and canyon lands of Texas and Eastern New Mexico in dramatic fine art aerial photographs. Collaborating with seven pilots and using eight airplanes and one helicopter, Chaplo and his team covered 40,000 square miles of landscape in the making of the book. Embedded in the dramatic images are many historic sites with intriguing stories. Amarillo Flights is published by Texas A&M University Press as part of the WTAMU’s “American Wests” Series. The introduction to the book was written by Walt Davis, who wonderfully bridges the worlds of art and history. The Amarillo Flights touring solo exhibition is showing through Jan. 23 at PPHM in Canyon, TX. See you Wednesday 12/23 at Studio 101 Gallery!   https://www.studio101.gallery/

Amarillo Flights book by Paul V. Chaplo (TAMU Press)

First review of the "Amarillo Flights: Aerial Views of Llano Estacado Country" art book!
T. Lindsay Baker, well-known Texas historian writes: "
The Staked Plains region, near level and treeless, has escarpments on three sides in the states of Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. From the air photographer Paul Chaplo sought out its most spectacular and significant areas, recording them for our intellectual enlightenment and visual delight. His photographs encompass not merely the three eroded edges of the plains but also the immensity of the flatness that they surround. This comprehensive panorama of the Southern Great Plains from above is unequaled in works of his predecessors."

Pre-order now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and (highly recommended) directly from Texas A&M University Press.  Signed, limited edition photographs from the book, printed on Red River Paper Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag paper, are also available as art for you wall!

AMARILLO BY SATURDAY! See you at the opening of the Amarillo Flights exhibition at PPHM. I will be in the gallery this Saturday, July 18 from 1:00-4:00 pm! The museum is open, just bring a mask! The exhibit, “Amarillo Flights: Aerial Views of Llano Estacado Country,” will premiere at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas. The one-person exhibit will showcase Paul Chaplo's personal aerial photography of the high plains of the Llano Estacado, with a focus on the rugged escarpments and breaks in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. The large format color aerial images are from Chaplo's upcoming book by the same title. The photographs reveal the rugged natural beauty of the landscape and many historic sites such as Horsehead Crossing (where you will see the traces of the old trails!), Adobe Walls Battlefield, Fort Bascom site, Chavez City ruins, and the top of Landergin Mesa—to name a few of the many that will fill the Mary E. Bivins Gallery. I look forward to meeting you, surrounded by Texas-sized pictures where history meets fine art photography!
